Qualifying – WC#5 – Windham

After missing the cut in qualifying due to a flat rear tyre at Mont Sainte Anne you can bet Jared Graves is keen to make up lost points here in Windham. Today he qualified in 34th place. Photo: Jacob Gibbins

Yeeh haw!ATime for the Windham World Cup, Windham is aAtypical American town with American flags everywhere, you feel likeApeople are looking at you funny but really everyone is actually very welcoming.

The track at Windham is not overly technical, it is made up of wooden shale rock sections and wide open corners, with a few jumps to keep things interesting. This year a 50ft jump greets the riders as they come into the finish area. With the track not being super techy or long, one mistake will cost riders a lot of positions.

Sam Hill shows how the shaley rock takes over in places, he qualified fifth, the top five for this race looks very different to what we have become used to in 2012. Photo: Jacob Gibbins

Being his home race it is no surprise Aaron Gwin qualified fastest but what is surprising is he did it after losing his chain near the top of the track! Danny Hart was the fastest rider a split one but a crash/mechanical saw him qualify well down the order. Chris Kovarik’s horror run at World Cups this year continues with another issue seeing him down in last position.

Dean Lucas made the qualifying cut in 77th. Photo: Jacob Gibbins
Dave McMillan got style (and skill), after being red flagged in his first qualifying run he just missed qualification in 91st place. Photo: Jacob Gibbins
121st place for Joey Vejvoda but valuable experience for later in the year. Photo: Jacob Gibbins
