Fox Creek Race Report 2nd & 3rd July 2011

Charlie Martindale racing Under 17’s, luckily by the time racing started conditions had improved immensely.

Fox Creek has a history of notorious (wet) race conditions and round 4 of the South Australian State Series looked to be another race that would be decided in wet and wild conditions.AA Saturdayas practice brought rain and muddy conditions. Mud tyres were critical with Fox Longs clay soil clogging tyres as riders hit the track. Some riders didnat even bother with Saturday practice, gambling on the weather for Sunday and choosing to save themselves and their bikes for the race day. This was a smart tactic for those that had the opportunity to practice the publicly accessible track in the weeks leading up to the race. Despite the conditions and the mass exodus of locals to Whistler, racer numbers were still good.

AA Fortunately, for those who gambled on the weather, Sunday dawned as a sunny day, that, combined with the morning practice runs, meant the track dried out for racing.

AA First in Under 19, by over 3.5 seconds with a time that was good enough for 3rd in Elite Men, was Cameron Ryan, an amazing result for someone who could still be racing Under 17as. Definitely one to watch and possible star for the future.

AA Elite Women was taken out by Molly Payne who has lifted her game this season and is the woman to beat.

Molly Payne has really stepped it up this year and is riding well.

AA Elite Men is always a hotly contested class, this race was no different but there were a fewAdifferent faces on the podium. In the end, Mr Reliable, Craig Yates took the win.
