Canadian Open – Crankworx 17th July 2011

The Canadian Open is the premier downhill race held during the Crankworx Festival in Whistler. Held on a track, that could double as a World Cup track, it always provides good racing. If you’re a spectator then Hecklefest is held on Hecklers Rock and is one of the best spectating events you will come across, mountain bike relatedAor not!

Troy Brosnans favourite place on the whole track? Hecklers Rock! It took him half the track to regain his composure after passing it but it must have worked, 3rd place! Photo: Chris Blake (wyldginger.com)

Due an excellent snow season Whistler is wetter than usual, this meant conditions on the track were a little wet and slippery for racing. Nothing that the pro’s couldn’t deal with, it did create a few headaches for some of the less experienced classes though, especially when combined with the high technical nature of the track.

Junior Men started off the proceedings and it was an Australian, Dave McMillan getting the business done by over 2 seconds. Dave is a super stylish rider, a joy to watch but also one that can throw down fast times.
